Obituary

Sean Moloney, 53, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, left this world on January 19th, 2024. He was born in Pittsburgh in 1970 and was raised by his mother Linda Moloney. He learned early on in his life that his two passions were hockey and music. The former would ultimately become his career, one that spanned his playing days at Serra Catholic High School before shifting to coaching shortly after attending the University of Pittsburgh. He would eventually have a son Tyler Moloney, his pride and joy, whom he loved along with his mother, more than anything in the world. The two of them pushed him throughout his life to be the best version of himself.

& During his time coaching, he worked with countless organizations, including University teams such as Robert Morris, Washington and Jefferson, and Duquesne, Junior programs such as the Keystone Ice Miners in the NAHL, and even independent institution academies such as World Pro Goaltending and his own goalie academy Building Blocks Goaltending. In 2013 he joined the world of published authors, producing a detailed exploration of his profession with Modern Goaltending Modern Game.

While his professional resume is impressive in itself, personally he had a heart of gold and cared deeply about everyone in his life. This would extend from the goalies under his watch, to include all his friends, family, and even random people he would meet, often online, through shared interests. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds. Battling health issues for much of his adult life, he always found time to share his story, especially when it might serve as some form of inspiration to others that we're struggling. He regularly stated that he was "an idiot in all non-Goaltending related matters" yet he was loved by so many that he crossed paths with. He was a man of integrity and it meant so much to him to maintain that in every aspect of his life.

Preceded in death by his beloved mother Linda and survived by his son Tyler. He wished to have a celebration of life in his honor, which will be on Sunday, February 4th, 2024, from 2pm - 8pm at Readshaw Funeral Home, Inc. 1503 Brownsville Road, Carrick.
