IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Joseph
Assenat
December 11, 1980 – April 3, 2025
Michael Joseph Assenat
Born on December 11th, 1980, passed away on April 3rd, 2025. Michael was a curious, fun, and adventurous individual who grew up in the Allentown and Carrick neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. He had a deep love for animals, taking in multiple dogs and an iguana. Known for his passion for things with wheels, he spent countless days building bikes from junk in Big D's basement, earning a reputation among BMX enthusiasts for his riding and building skills.
Michael was a natural athlete, participating in baseball and skiing, and spent a memorable year in Norway during 7th grade. He was a hard worker, a talented welder, and had a knack for metal and construction work. His artistic abilities shone through in his spontaneous drawings and metal sculptures. Michael enjoyed the challenge and creativity of working with materials from the junk business and was always willing to lend his skills to home improvement projects for his family.
Throughout his life, Michael lived in various places, including Washington, PA, Kolbu, Norway, and Florida. His job painting massive structures like bridges and water towers took him to many states, including Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, the Carolinas, Kentucky, and Florida. Despite the physical and mental challenges from his work, Michael's greatest joy was his daughter, Josslyn, whom he loved dearly.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Josslyn Assenat; his parents, George and Diane Assenat; his brothers, Julian and Damien Assenat; and his sisters, Mary Latimer and Katherine Fink. He is preceded in death by his older brothers, George and infant Georgie. Michael will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love for his family, and his unique ability to find joy and humor in life.
