IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George E
Lewis
February 24, 1941 – September 18, 2024
George Edward Lewis, 83, passed away on September 18th. He was the son of the late Andrew S. and Julia R.& (Kosen) Lewis and was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Catherine.
Throughout his life, George embraced many roles, including barber in the Navy, coal miner, business owner, automotive mechanic, and volunteer firefighter. A creative spirit, he excelled in woodworking and ceramics and was always willing to offer home repair advice. George was also known for his adeptness at playing *Jeopardy!* (he was frequently, "the man") and his fondness for crossword puzzles. He will be fondly remembered for his passion for riding motorcycles - and a stolen horse or two in his youth.
George was a quiet philanthropist, often choosing to donate rather than sell items he no longer needed. His volunteer work included serving as a driver for the blind.
The family will carry on George's sense of humor—the Jiggly Room will never close. While he would have preferred a simple farewell of "GEORGE IS DEAD," his life was far too rich for such brevity.
He is survived by his children, Randy Lewis of Morrow, Ohio; Shari Hall of Wilmington, Ohio; Heather (Sam) of Toney, Alabama; Shannon (Grant) Moss of Cecil, Pennsylvania; and Andrew (Laura) Lewis of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His children were his greatest pride, followed closely by his grandchildren, whom he cherished watching grow. George also considered himself lucky to have inherited a vast extended family through his marriage to Catherine - leaving brothers and sisters in-law and nieces and nephews to also carry on his jokes and memory.
Interment at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will be private. A celebration of George's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to veterans organizations in honor of George's patriotism.
