IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frances (Halperin)
Tamler
April 17, 1932 – July 23, 2024
Our beloved mother, Frances Tamler, 92, slipped away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Frances's wit, warmth and huge personality filled many a room and charmed many a heart over the years, from her lifelong home in New Jersey to her final time in Pittsburgh. Frances was born in Paterson, NJ, in 1932 and enjoyed a happy childhood in the home of her paternal grandparents who, along with her adoring older brother Joe, raised her and, in her words, spoiled her rotten. After high school, she won the affections of a handsome shoe salesman her friend had wanted to marry: Frances won the guy, lost the friend, and delighted in telling the story. Frances and Daniel's children, Louis and Leslie, were the stars in their universe, and Frances was the cool mom their friends confided in. Fran had a long career in retail at Bamberger's and Macy's, where she rose to managing the vault. She loved shopping with her daughter at Macy's and long talks in person or on the phone with her cherished grandchildren. She loved TV, mysteries, chocolate saltwater taffy, and going out for a hamburger with her son when they were no longer able to take long walks together and discuss the state of the world. Even on a limited income, she believed in tipping heavily and would stop in traffic to hand a $20 bill to a homeless person on the street, saying that her mother taught her to give to everyone so as not to miss anyone in need. We are grateful for all the lovely friends, neighbors, caregivers, nurses and personal aides who agreed that Fran was their favorite patient and whose gentleness eased the difficulty of her final days. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; parents Louis and Jennie Halperin; brothers Joseph, Bernard and Harold; and sister Barbara. Survivors include her son, Louis (Lisa), and daughter Leslie Ferrante; grandchildren Danny and Kyle Kammerer, and Cory, Sara and Jennica Tamler; brother Arthur (Mimi) Halperin and sister Linda (Greg) Wright. A celebration of Frances's life will be private. Donations welcomed in her memory to a charity of choice.
