What To Do When Death Occurs


Death in an Institution: When death occurs at a hospital or nursing home, the medical staff will contact the family. The should also take care of all necessary legal steps. Depending on the hospital policy, either you or they will need to contact Boron Funeral Home, Inc. 

Unexpected Death at Home or Elsewhere: Immediately call 911. The police and emergency medical personal will then determine the appropriate steps to be taken. Often, the police can release the deceased directly to Boron Funeral Home, Inc. However, if further investigations into the cause of death is necessary, the body may need to go to the Medical Examiners office. AT this time, you should contact Boron Funeral Home, Inc.

Anticipated Death at Home: Today, more people with terminal illnesses are electing to die at home under the care of hospice. In this situation, you just need to notify Hospice that Boron Funeral Home, Inc. is the funeral home of your choice. They will then take care of all necessary legal requirements, such as contacting the coroner and physician.

We suggest that when someone has a terminal illness, the family makes pre-arraignments with us so that they are not overwhelmed with the many important decisions at the time of death. 

Death out of State: if the death occurs out of town or out of state, call Boron Funeral Home, Inc. at 412-882-1506. We can coordinate with a local funeral director at the place of death who will assist in the removal, preparation, securing of the death certificate, and transportation to our facility. You will be asked for pertinent information for the death certificate, which will expedite your loved one’s final return home.
